The Word in Bike Communities: National Motorcycle Rights You Need to Find out

By Darnell Austria

With spring here and this year's bike week season couple of days from now, countless riders ride the roads and byways that run through this beautiful nation with motorcycle helmets and rally essentials. We are all making our preparations or even dreaming about a great bike season filled with memories that will last a lifetime. There are so many destinations to check out and other things to discover that it can be hard to decide which direction to ride. The very last thing on our brain is having the best of our time cut off by something as common as a traffic stop. When you're riding through this excellent country, every county has their own regulations concerning motorcycles and you must know that simply because your bike is 100 % legal in your county, it may not be in others. Simple things like handlebar height can get you a ticket. After you have been stopped, the officer can start probing and a chain of offenses may be noticed on top of that. Before leaving, have a look at the laws where you'll be traveling.

Countrywide

Over the past few years, we have heard about motorcycle-only checkpoints. Now you ask ,, are these stops authorized? Well, the problem here is that while our state representatives try to manage things out, we might be taking one on the chin. We hope, you won't ever have to be slowed at any random stops, particularly a motorcycle-only stop. If this occurs to you, it is always better if you have your paperwork in order and if you are cited for something in checkpoints, please do not sign that you are guilty. Request for a hearing and take time to give it a shot with the judge. This can tie up the court system and at least there is a chance to express yourself and there is a record of the judge's decision. Also, please write your representative and let them know that you feel your rights are being dishonored and you want them to put a stop to this type of harassment. If you're out of state, this may be not possible. If you have been caught up in a motorcycle-only checkpoint stop, we wish to listen to your story.

Virginia

The A.M.A. stated that on Feb . 13, 2012, the Virginia State Senate with one voice recognised the bill, HB-187, that discourages motorcycle-only checkpoints and at present the bill heads for Governor Bob McDonnell for consideration. If you join us in our out cry, make sure you simply call the governor and address him that you wish for him to authorize HB-187 into legislation. You can reach Governor Bob McDonnell at (804) 786-2211. This bill was brought out because the Arlington County Police Department in Virginia carried out a motorcycle-only checkpoint during Rolling Thunder on the 28th of May. The state of North Carolina has approved a very similar bill into legislation that inhibits motorcycle-only checkpoints.

This is a real great example of our Motorcycle Rights Organizations taking initiative. Many people informed to the A.M.A about the checkpoints and a call to action went out. House delegate, C. Todd Gilbert, introduced H-B 187 along with your help, his efforts combined with the motorcycle community wins a huge fight. If you ride, it is important to determine what is right for you. To make sure that your message is heard, make sure you take your time to sign up. If you happen to have others carry out the fighting for you, make sure that they can be on the same page as you. You may not have the same point of view on every issue, but at least your opinion shall be recognized.

E16 Ethanol

Furthermore, the A.M.A. reports that the house board passed a bill to require the E.P.A. to seek self-sufficient scientific analysis relating to the effects of 15% ethanol. The bill, H.R.3199, was designed by Rep Jim Sensenbrenner (R- WI.). The E.P.A. only used one Department of Energy evaluation and released with haste this new source to the market. This bill likewise requires our support. Not only our bikes, but every gasoline engine is at risk of serious conditions that will likely be caused by 15% ethanol. Our engines just weren't designed for this type of gasoline. The E.P.A. should not have set the green light for this gasoline without having been evaluated more thorough. Using this E15 fuel will tamper the manufacturers' warranties and will eventually break down fuel engines not manufactured for this type of fuel. There is certainly no bike among the list of automobiles that were devised for E15.

Please check the gas pumps. This fuel may perhaps be at your preferred filling station now. Air cooled engines are especially in risk as well as high performance and off-road engines. This fuel will burn too hot and cause engine damage or malfunction. Read through your owner's guide book if you absolutely have inquiries concerning the impact of E15 on your engines. We merely want to say thank you to the viewers for presenting their support. The next generation will have countless battles to pass through while protecting our motorcycle privileges. We like to give thanks to our service women and men, present and past, that defend and fight for our freedom.
