National Motorcycle Rights Issues You Have to Know

By Darnell Neypacs Ney

Springtime has arrived and this year's motorcycle rally season couple of days from now, numerous motorcycle drivers ride the highways and byways that run through our beautiful nation with motorcycle helmets and rally essentials. We're all making our plans or at least dreaming of a fantastic bike season filled with memories that will last a lifetime. There are so many destinations to check out and things to discover that it can be mind boggling to decide where to ride. The final thing on our mind is having the best of our time disturbed by something as simple as a traffic stop. When you're driving through this great country, every state has their own restrictions pertaining to bikes and you must know that simply because your bike is 100 % legal in your state, it may not be in others. Something as simple as the height of your handle bar can get you in trouble. After you've been stopped, the company can start asking questions and a chain of infractions may be noticed in addition. Before you ride, have a look at the laws where you are riding.

Over the last couple of years, we've been aware of motorcycle-only checkpoints. The question is, are these stops appropriate? Well, the issue here is that while our state officials try to manage things out, we might be taking one on the chin. We hope, you never have to be slowed at any stops, especially a motorcycle-only stop. If this occurs to you, it is better if you absolutely have your paperwork in order and if you're cited for something in an event of a checkpoint, please don't sign that you're guilty. Request for a hearing and take time to give it a shot with the judge. This can tie up the court system and at least you've got a strike to explain and there's a record of the judge's ruling. Additionally, remember to write your congressman and tell them that you believe your civil rights are being dishonored and you want them to put a stop to this type of harassment. If you're touring, this might be impossible to do. If you've been caught up in a motorcycle-only checkpoint stop, we want to know your story.

Virginia

The A.M.A. declared that on Feb. 13, 2012, the Virginia State Senate with one voice endorsed the bill, HB-187, that discourages motorcycle-only checkpoints and at present the bill heads for Governor Bob McDonnell for consideration. If you join us in our out cry, please contact the governor and let him know you wish for him to authorize HB-187 into law. You can contact Governor Bob McDonnell at (804) 786-2211. This bill was published because the Arlington County Police Department in Virginia implemented a motorcycle-only checkpoint within Rolling Thunder on the 28th of May. The state of North Carolina has signed a very similar bill into legislation that forbids motorcycle-only checkpoints.

This may be a real great example of our Motorcycle Rights Organizations taking action. A number of people cited to the A.M.A about the checkpoints and a call to action went out. House delegate, C. Todd Gilbert, presented H-B 187 along with your support; his hard work combined with the bike community wins a major fight. If you drive, you must choose what is best for you. To make sure that your voice is heard, be sure to take your time to participate. If you let others carry out the battle for you, make sure that they are on the same page just like you. You may not have the same opinion on every issue, but at least your side shall be recognized.

E16 Ethanol

Also, the A.M.A. has reported that the house board passed a bill to require the E.P.A. to find independent scientific analysis relating to the effects of 15% ethanol. The bill, H.R.3199, was introduced by Representative Jim Sensenbrenner (R- WI.). The E.P.A. only used a single Doe test and released with haste this product in the market. This bill likewise requires our support. Not only our motorcycles, but every gasoline engine is in danger of serious issues that will likely be caused by 15% ethanol. Our engines are not made for this type of gasoline. The E.P.A. should not have given the okay to produce this type of gasoline not having been tested thoroughly. Using this E15 fuel will void manufacturers' warranties and will ultimately ruin gas engines not designed for this kind of fuel. There is currently no motorcycle on the list of motor vehicles that were manufactured for E15.

Please read the gas pumps. This fuel may perhaps be at your preferred filling station now. Air cooled engines are particularly in danger as well as high performance and off-road engines. This fuel will burn too hot and cause engine damage or breakdown. Examine your owner's guide book when you've got any queries about the impact of E15 on your engines. We just like to say thanks to the readers for showing their support. The next generation will have countless battles to endure while conserving our motorcycle rights. We also wish to say thanks to our service women and men, present and past that defend and fight for our own freedom.
