The Uses Of A Cycling Training Plan For Adult Learners

By Ora Scott

As an adult learner a cycling training plan may be all you need to learn to ride a bicycle. Many adults that have not yet learned to cycle feel embarrassed by the fact. Many hold a deep regret about it and others harbor resentment toward their parents or friends or whoever they blame for preventing them learning whilst in childhood.

It is important to debunk any myths in your mind that might be preventing you from learning. For example there never comes a point when it is too late for learning to cycle. It is not harder to learn to ride for an adult than it is for a child. Also, no one is too old to ride a bicycle and once you do learn you it will stay with you for life.

There is only one thing that you will have to master in order to join the world of cyclists. That is the need and relationship between balance and momentum. It is the momentum that keeps the balance. You cannot stay upright if the bicycle is standing still. Everyone has the natural ability to balance on a moving bike including you. This is not something that some people have while others do not.

You should be able to pedal before you try to start cycling. If you have no previous experience of this motion then you practice on an exercise bike. It is not helpful for learners to attempt using stabilizing wheels on a bicycle and this could delay them achieving balance later on.

You should start of on a grassy area like a park for your first lessons. This will soften the falls which you should be prepared for and accept. You will need a second person who will be responsible for pushing you so that you have the required momentum. Look ahead in the direction you want to go and maintain the momentum by keep pedalling.

So once you have accepted that riding a bicycle is absolutely within your grasp then the only thing that is needed is practice and this is where your cycling training plan comes into action. Give yourself one week to learn to ride. You should tell yourself that at the end of 7 days you will be riding as comfortably as any other cyclist.
