By Michelle Mills

Many mums and dads find trying hard to get their kid to bed at night to be one gigantic struggle. The kid may play up, whinge and even cry. When in bed, the kid may then repeatedly keep getting out of bed and coming downstairs. This article gives tips on the best way to successfully get your child into bed at night, without all this fuss.

Some children even though they know that they're beat, do not want to lose out on any of the action or excitement. They'd like to spend as much time with mom and pop as practicable. They can even see the undeniable fact that they must head off to bed before their parents as unjust and even cruel. These kinds of youngsters will want to interrupt and even avoid heading off to bed at all cost.

I myself have 2 small children and have been thru this experience myself. My child especially needs her sleep and can be very moody in the mornings, if she's not had a particular quantity of hours of it. As a parent it can get maddening as well as worrying when you see your kid crying because they do not need to trot off to bed. Comments like, please dad a single more programme on the television, were far too regular, and at times I felt rather like backing down.

I've now learnt via reading many books on parenting, the proper way to handle this position. Each kid now has a set time when they need to be in bed by. This is a time that they have both agreed to!

They get modified into their pyjamas around 30 minutes before this time, and then can either spend that time period playing with their toys or watching the television. If they want to play, we make sure that the games are relaxing ones and not so energized.

If there's a programme that's on later than their concluded bedtimes, I'm in agreement to film it for them, this way they know that they are not missing out for example.

I have agreed that I'm going to read them a tale at bedtime. This is something that they both love and helps them to wind down and relax. They are also given a drink to head off to bed with; so there is no need for them to continue coming downstairs. This drink is generally a juice and should not be fizzy.

I have explained to each kid the importance of sleep and that it should be something to enjoy and not to see as some variety of punishment. I have even gone as far as saying that I would like to go to bed at the time that they do, sadly their mother doesn't allow it.

I've attempted to make their bedrooms their own tiny palace. It's a place that they'd like to spend some time, a place which they find fun, relaxing and comfy.

My child likes to hear music and therefore we play a tape of his favourite songs in his room. The volume is set quite low and this certainly helps him to get to sleep fairly quickly.

These tips have helped make our children's bedtimes a pleasing experience, where it was quite fraught. The children themselves are now into a routine, a routine they're satisfied with. I am hoping this guidance proves useful to you as well. Good luck.
