Why are Felt bikes so well-loved?

By Josep Batistuta

With a number of great bike brands available it is hard for many cyclists to say which one is the best. However, a fair number of people would argue for that tag being stickered onto Felt bikes. This global brand started life in America in 2001 and has gone on to be one of the most highly respected bike brands with a community of fans that believe Felt has achieved its aim to be the best bike company in the world.

Jim Felt, who the company is named after, was once occupied with motocross as a mechanic. Ironically, it was a motocross racer, Johnny O'Mara that lead Jim Felt into a world of bikes without motors. This happened when Felt was approached to make a bike O'Mara could use to prepare for a triathlon. Felt took to this task like a mountain biker to mud, and his interest led him away from the world of motocross to other bicycles.

For without this simple request Felt wouldn't have been able to contribute ground-breaking design features to its range of bikes. While it wasn't for another 10 years that Felt bikes became available to a wider audience of cyclists, these years were used experimenting with how to make bikes as fast and stable as possible.

The proprietary moulding process known InsideOut Internally Optimized Molding for example ensures that any unwanted excess material is completely removed from the carbon fibre tubing. This removes any unnecessary weight and makes the bike as stable as possible.

Whether your bike of choice is a 29er, a hardtail or a hybrid, Felt bikes strive for the highest quality possible throughout its range, meaning cyclists on a budget can still enjoy the advantages of a Felt bike. The founder of Felt has previously stated that their aim isn't to be the biggest bike company in the world - 'just the best'. This shows where the company's priorities are, leaving many in no doubt that Felt bikes are justifiably so popular.
