PK Ripper: BMX Or Mountain Bike

By Mark Belmont

SE Bikes decided to start selling their PK Ripper bikes on the open market, which allowed them to sell to more types of people. This required them to expand their line as well. With so many different types of bikes some people are unsure which type they should buy. Each bike has its pros and cons so it is important to know the difference when buying one so that the person makes a choice that will fit their body and lifestyle.

There are two main types of bikes the first being BMX bikes and the second being mountain bikes or all terrain bikes. Most people use BMX bikes for things like racing and freestyle which require more movement and flexibility. Mountain bikes are much better for rugged ground or for going up or down hills. BMX bikes do not have gears which makes it much harder to ride them up a hill or over great distances.

One great thing about mountain bikes is that they have a number of gears which allow the rider to adjust tension depending on the terrain. This makes them much better for riding up and down hills or over uneven ground. Since BMX bikes lack gears they can be harder to ride up hills, as it takes more effort from the rider. BMX bikes are also much smaller which means they may not accommodate someone who is of generous weight.

Modern all terrain bikes are also much lighter than they used to be. Mountain bikes were too heavy in past to use on things like dirt ramps or trails. Now they are not much heavier than BMX bikes which gives them a lot more maneuverability than in the past.

BMX bikes are a lot of fun to ride but they are not as durable as mountain bikes. ATBs have shocks that can absorb some of the stress caused by rocky trails or rough terrain. BMX bikes are not made for this type of riding, especially the wheels and tires, which are not made to handle going over rocky terrain.

One big disadvantage of a mountain bike is that young people are often too small to ride them. This cuts down on the number of people who can actually ride this type of bike. They might also be too big even for an adult to handle on ramps or street courses.

If cost is an issue than the person should look to a BMX, as they are considerably cheaper than an all terrain bike. A quality BMX will only cost the rider up to four hundred dollars while a top notch mountain bike will run in the thousands. Since a ATBs have far more moving parts they are also more likely to break down and require repairs, which can also be expensive.

Companies like SE Bikes are trying to accommodate the growing number of people who want to ride bicycles. By creating different styles of the PK Ripper they have made it easy for anyone to own a bike. By knowing the various features a person can make a more educated decision about their bicycle purchase and find one that fits their body and their lifestyle.
