Many people consider getting a bicycle. But there are also many folks who don't know how to choose the right bikes, and they end up getting bikes that are wrong for them. Here are some tips on good bicycle selection.

City bikes or a hybrid are the best choices. These bicycles are the type that are somewhere between a mountain bike and a road bike. A city bike is made for regular use around town, or regular use period. Mountain bikes, however, are exactly as their name implies. They are meant for rougher road.

Once you have found the type of bike you prefer, it is extremely important to choose a bike with a comfortable seat. You will also want to look for a bike with handlebars that will allow you to maintain an upright position. It's up to you when it comes to fenders, a rack, or even a basket.

Now that you have an idea of some of the things to look for when purchasing your new bike, you need to make sure the bike fits you. You can do this by straddling the frame of the bicycle to make sure you crotch area clears the middle bar by at least an inch or two. Most bicycle seats can be adjusted so your knees will be slightly bent when the pedal is at its lowest point. If there is too much side to side movement in your hips when you ride your new bike, the seat is too high. You'll have to bring the seat down a bit. Most salespeople are ready to help you with your bike adjustments.

When you purchase your new bike, there are many options and extras that will be offered to you. You must use your best judgment, and choose what will suit you best. You might be offered toe clips or metal cages on your pedals. Toe clips are designed to keep your feet in place. It'll help prevent knee injury. However, you should beware. They would take some getting used to.
