Embrocation Cream Keeps Cold Weather Cyclists Warm

By Franklin Bugasch

The use of embrocation cream is common among many types of athletes, including bicyclists. Basically this cream warms the muscles when rubbed into them, simulating the effect of muscles that have already been exercised for a period of time. The cream can be purchased online or in sporting good and natural health stores.

Bicyclists often rub the cream over their calf muscles a short time before they start working out. They use it on chilly days to give their joints and tissues an extra boost and stop them from stiffening up. The cream is also effective on the shoulders and lower back area.

You should never feel discomfort when using the cream as long as you are following instructions and using only on recommended areas of the body. Some areas are too sensitive and may react with a painful sensation.

Most businesses makes their creams slightly different than the others. Many add in mint to give it a sharp, clean smell. The main ingredients tend to be the same, however. They include inactive ingredients as well as active ingredients, such as shea butter, black pepper extract, and capsicum oleoresin.

Shea butter is used in many different products as a moisturizer, salve, or lotion base. It is made of fat extracted from the Shea tree. Black pepper includes a compound called piperine. This compound has thermogenic properties, meaning it produces heat. Capsicum oleoresin also produces heat in some fashion. This inflammatory compound is also used in pepper spray. It should never be used near the eyes, nose, or mouth.

You will not have a problem with the cream washing off from sweat or rain, though it may lose some of its effectiveness over time during your workout. When you are done for the day and ready to clean it off, lather up with soap first before getting the area wet.
